Well, don't think I've posted here before. I'm the Chronicle Web Editor! Richard Payson! Lately the office has been a great place for me to hang out and just work on any of my projects. I'm becoming closer friends with everyone I work with here! It always makes it a much better place to be!
Well, on to why I really wanted to post on our Unofficial blog. When I first started uploading stories for the Chronicle I felt the web site needed a lot of work. Without asking the Editor in Chief(my boss) I kinda just plunged in and starting making random fixes while also trying to figure out this new CP5 back end system we are running. Occasionally I would get a small "great job Richard on this fix!" around the office. It was awesome, it felt like I was starting to really make some more friends at the Chronicle. One day I really took on a huge project! I woke up at like 9 Am and spent like 8 hours on putting up our front page player. At that time I was really bad at the whole CP5 thing thats why it took me so long! Then, my boss, Rachel, she was really pleased with the direction the web site was moving. From that point I started to really make my way into the Chronicle. I started having meetings with Jake, our General Manager, Rachel, and Tom, our advertising manager, about some more design issues the web page was in need of. One of the big things we brought to the table was the Masthead. We all figured out a design we liked and drew up a bunch of sketches. Once I sat down to take that project on, and finished, I was pretty much the coolest person in the office! No, I'm kidding. I did get some more "Great Jobs!" tho. After that update some of the bigger design updates have slowed down. So it feels that the web page is now at a place that I am conformable with.
I do however feel that the web page can still use a lot of work for some new types of media that is coming our way. Like video, photo gallerys, and audio sideshows. I do continue to try to find small areas I can improve. Today I fixed a few things that have been building up on my to do list for a while now. I created an archive page that lets users browse past issues and lets them view PDF versions of the Print edition. I finally put up a Fav Icon!
I Am excited for this up coming year. I feel that we can really change our mind set of how the web site works as far a when stories and photos can be posted.
Well I think that about does it. Thats how I felt today :)
